The first thing you do is cut out 4 flower shapes. I found a cookie cutter I had to use as a template. You can make your own template or find something to trace. You then put a dab of clue in the center and fold them in half.
Kenzie’s rainbow birthday party is coming up, and she wants a rainbow party. Convenient that it’s around St. Patrick’s Day, so there’s tons of inspiration everywhere. One thing I wanted to do for the gift bags was to have us make each girl a headband representing each color of the rainbow. Today, we worked on them. I bring you my rainbow felt headband tutorial so you can make them yourself. Stay tuned for the final results of the party you’ll see us preparing for. The party is at the end of the month.
You’ll put a dot of glue down in the center and put one petal on top. Then, another dot of glue and layer the next petal.
The final one goes over one side of the flower and under the other – putting glue in spots to hold it in place.
The final step was to cut out a felt circle and glue that onto the back of the flower, sandwiching it around the Goody elastic headbands I purchased at Safeway. Fluff up your felt flower, and you’ve got yourself a cute headband.
The girls were able to help every step of the way. My one warning is the hot glue gun. I burn myself, so I had to be so careful with the girls giving tons of training and direction. Only you will know if your kids can handle it. Take it day to day based on behavior. There are some days I’d never attempt it. We were having a great day of obedience, so I had faith we could do it. I would let the hot glue cool a bit before I let them fold the flowers over and hold them in place. Both girls were able to help in tracing and my oldest was able to help with some of the cutting…especially the circles.
This is a great tutorial! I’m a sucker for the bright colors and the felt. Felt is good.
Felt is good. So easy to work with too. Thanks for coming by and checking it out!
Hi Jodi! These headbands are so, so cute! I have a granddaughter spending the night and I know she would love to make these. Your tutorial is great and clear to follow.
You have the sweetest blog here. I have perused many of your posts and enjoyed each one. Precious little ones!
So nice stopping by to visit!
Kindly, Lorraine
Thanks so much, Lorraine. I’m so glad you dropped by. I had actually pinned your beautiful jello dessert, and people are re-pinning it like crazy on my end. I appreciate you stopping by my little corner. I have to say that you don’t look old enough to be a grandma, but I really do hope you’ll do this with the kids. I’m sure they’d enjoy it. God bless!
Hi Jodi, Thank you for sharing, I can’t wait to make these! I have a niece I think will love them.
I’m sure she would. It’s pretty simple and inexpensive too. Have fun with it. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for sharing at Fabulous Friday!
Thanks for hosting us. Notice that you’re following along now. Thanks for that too.
Those are so cute and colorful, a fabulous addition to your treat bags! I’ve featured you in tomorrow’s A Crafty Soiree, thanks for joining us.
Thank you so much, Katie. I am honored to be featured!
Hmm…Just went there and didn’t see it. Maybe I’m a day early.
I am planning my daughter’s rainbow party for this Sunday! This is a great idea for favors. We’re making bracelets with rainbow beads with each kids’ name. We have a couple boys coming to the party, so I’ll have to think of something to give them, if we do your super cute headbands!
Thanks for sharing!
Jamie
Cool – I’m so glad you were inspired by it. I am going to have to look back to see the results of your party. We’re preparing for our daughter’s rainbow party next weekend. Have a lot of fun!
