I believe a huge part of winning our kids heart to learn the true intention of submissiveness is to learn about God’s faithfulness. At my last church, I learned that Biblical faith, as it is intended in the original translations, means putting your faith in something that is faithful. Yes, it is sometimes what we can’t see or fully comprehend. However, God has shown himself faithful throughout time. We have reason to trust. As I have expressed before, faith hasn’t necessarily come easy to me. I am a sceptic. A lot of what I read doesn’t make sense to me because I can’t comprehend it with my human mind. However, through a lot of study, I have learned to believe it is true and trust in God’s faithfulness. Therefore, I have learned to submit. I’m just realizing this might be a long winded post. Hang in there with me… A lot of people don’t want to submit to God because they think He is a kill joy. God makes up rules that prevent me from having fun. In fact, if you really sit down to think about it, God’s rules exist to bring us joy. Consider with me for a moment if the world was following God’s “rules.” Let’s see. The primary command is to love God with everything you have. The second is to love your neighbor as yourself. In other words, “Love one another.” Hmmm…that might be a good one. Seriously imagine what the world would look at if we simply chose to follow His second command. Consider much of the pain in your life. How much of that would have been prevented if someone or even you had followed God’s commands. Take the things you see on the news that bring you disgust – killings, rapes, child abuse, affairs, oppression, war. Would these things not all be prevented if people decided to follow God’s “rules.” We should consider them as guidelines for a better existence on this planet. That said, I want to make sure you understand that it’s not the rules that unite you with God but your willingness to decide you want to trust Him with your life. That is built out of relationship and not some sort of works that you could ever do on your own. I wanted to get all of that foundation laid for the heart of submission. You are teaching your kids to submit to a God who has the best intentions for His people. He created you. He loves you. He wants the best for your life. He wants you in a relationship with Him so you can really understand His heart in the guidelines He has set forward. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11 If that is understood, then submitting to this God wouldn’t seem so hard. This is God’s heart, and I really want my kids to grasp that too. So, on to our activity.

Really beautiful post. I love the part about how you told them that sometimes Mommy and Daddy can see things they can’t. That is a great analogy to what God does. He knows what is best for us because He knows everything! From having an in-home preschool, there is definitely a difference between the children who are taught to be submissive and the ones who aren’t. Although some people many think otherwise, rules make kids happier. Thanks for linking up at Mom’s Library!
