Today’s activity was simple, but the kids had a blast. We went digging for gold.
The first thing I did was spray paint some rocks gold. I had rocks I had purchased a while back at the Dollar Store. I’m sure you could do just regular rocks you find in the garden, but they might need a little scrubbing first. I think the Dollar Store will save you some work. Spray painting them took minutes.
Next, I buried the rocks in our playground area. We have little pebbles, but you can always bury them in dirt too. You could also make a treasure map if you were so inspired. Then, I got Kenzie. I had her repeat:
Going on a treasure hunt (repeat)
I’m not afraid (repeat)
I’ve got my mom by my side (repeat)
And Corban too
I marched them over to our playground area and showed them that I heard there was buried gold there. They set to work digging. They were delighted as they found the gold. It kept them busy for quite some time, and I know it’s an activity we’ll do over and over.
