Cereal Box Valentine Holder

1-#valentine holder cereal box child's face-001 I’m excited to bring you a fun craft for Valentine’s Day. This Cereal Box Valentine Holder is the perfect container to make with your child’s classroom to collect all their cards. In fact, that is my exact plan. They are easy and inexpensive to make, but with the children’s faces poking over the top of the box, they are sure to bring a lot of joy to everyone. A friend of mine at school made these with her son’s class last year, and I fell in love with the concept. I asked if I could steal her idea and one of her photos. Here is the picture of her son’s version last year:

1. You will need an empty cereal box.

2. Trim off the top flaps.

3. Use wrapping paper or largeValentine-colored paper from school – you know the big rolls of paper they have on hand.

4. Wrap the box as you would a present.

Don’t forget that the kids can help wrap it up. The top just tucks into the box nicely, and you can tape it inside, along the edges of the box.

5. Trace around your the child’s hand. I used cream colored construction paper.

6. Cut out a strip of paper in a Valentine color. The paper I cut 2 3/4″ x 9″.

7. I had Kenzie tape the hands to the end of the strip of paper. You can always use glue too. I was in a tape kind of mood.

7 1/2. Oops. I did a mistake in my numbering and didn’t want to go back and change my graphics. Forgive me. The kids will want to decorate the front of the box. We just cut out a white heart and glued it to the front. If you are using plain paper, kids can decorate in a variety of ways – cut out paper, paint, markers, crayons, etc. The possibilities are endless. I found fun Valentine wrapping paper and like the simplicity of this design.

8. You can use glue, but I let Kenzie use tape to tape down the hands next.

9. Wrap them, loosely, around the back and tape or glue to the back of the box.

10. You will want to print out the child’s face onto card stock paper. I did Kenzie’s face about 6-7 inches tall, and I thought it was a great fit. Let me make it clear that it was her head (chin to top) that was 6-7 inches, not the picture. Cut it out. It will then be taped or glued to the back of the box.

I love the end results.
