Our church has a weekend called “Faith in Action.” When my pastor did a sermon on the concept, he spoke about how we need to be players in our faith. If a sports team were to sit in a huddle, pump themselves up, talk about plays and then go sit on the bench and not do anything about it, we’d think it was ridiculous. Often times this is unfortunately what Christians do. I’m sorry if that’s what your experience with the church has been because it is far from what the Bible teaches, and there are fabulous people out there that can give you a different impression of what faith is all about. Church is intended to be our huddle. We are suppose to gather together to be motivated to serve and love others, glorifying God in the process. If we keep the church in the confines of the walls, we are definitely not doing our job. Faith isn’t about a Sunday morning experience. The goal is to get people in the huddle and at practice to equip and motivate them in their daily lives. In an attempt to speak to our community, our church has adopted a “Faith in Action” weekend where all the members are in teams doing something to serve the community. Our group was at a home where a women helps take care of people with special needs. Because she is one of the only people at this house doing this work, she has little time for up keep of the grounds. We went in to help her and what she is doing for our community. I know there was a free car wash going on at the church. There were tons of groups spread out among our community, getting their hands dirty and serving the way we’ve been instructed. The hope is that this flows out even more into our lives. It should not just be a weekend thing, but service should become a way of life. I’d encourage everyone of you to get out of the huddle and play the game.
I enjoyed reading your post. A good reminder to be doers of the word, and not hearers only.
YAY! <3
