We are so excited to be expecting another baby in the family. No! Not me! My sister-in-law is expecting a little girl. My other sister-in-law and I volunteered to do the baby shower. We were going to do grey, white and yellow or an explosion of pink. We went to the fabric store for inspiration, fell in love with the fabric for the runners and went pink, which isn’t really what either of us expected to be excited about. We’re not necessarily pink people. However, it ended up being really fun. We decided to switch things up a bit and make it more like a cocktail party, encouraging people to dress up and serving cocktails, finger food appetizers and mini desserts. I hope you saw the post on the prep work if you wanted to use any of the ideas here. Here are the details:
The beautiful mom to be and my co-hosts.
The table setting. This was a bit of a disappointment, actually. We had planned the whole party to be out on the back patio. My husband had hung those fun bulb lights back and forth to light up the patio. It overlooks the lake, and we had tiki torches – the whole bit. Living the the Pacific NW, we have to understand that sometimes weather doesn’t cooperate. It was a chilly day with bouts of rain and wind. We had to move the party indoors. I hope you’ll check out my napkin folding tutorial. A tip for flowers is to head on over to a Farmer’s Market if you have one in your area. These bouquets were $8 each. Not bad!
OK – We may have gone overboard buying the pink pillows for the couch (suppose to be on the outside couch). An idea we came up with was to wrap boxes and put the serving platters on top of them to give us different heights.
We did cocktails, mocktails and water. The water was done by cutting up strips of wrapping paper and adding a paper with baby stamped on it. We originally followed a recipe for the cocktails, but we didn’t like it at all. So, we started adding things. I couldn’t tell you the ratio, but I know they were made up of…are you ready for the list…raspberry vodka, strawberry daiquiri mix, champagne, Sprite, pineapple juice and pink lemonade.
I guess if you want an appetizer party, we had a good combo. There were a lot of people saying it was the best array of appetizers they’ve had at a party. I plan to get you these recipes soon. Ask if you want a recipe in the mean time.
1. Asparagus with Cream Cheese and Prosciutto
2. Pastry with Pesto, Cherry Tomatoes, Goat Cheese and Basil
3. Fresh Spring Roll with a Spicy Peanut Sauce
4. Caprese Salad Skewers
5. Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts
6. Olive Tapenade on a Crostini
7. Rosemary Puff Pastry Roll (not pictured)
Desserts were also a hit. You already know my obsession with cakes. I’m super excited about the raspberry cream shooter I made up too. It was a favorite, for sure.
1. Pink Ombre Mini Cakes
2. Pink Lemonade Cookies
3. Raspberry Dessert Shooter
