Abby grabbed my the “Family Fun” August 2012 issue and began looking through it this morning. She landed on the ribbon wands and said, I want to do that. I knew I had all the materials, so I thought, “Why not.” Here’s how we did it:
Materials Needed: Ribbon without wire (they used 1 1/2 yards of 1 1/2 inch wide satin ribbon…I just grabbed what we had), tacky glue, stick pins with a flat head, dowels, 20 gauge craft wire
Cut the wire about an inch long. Poke it through the ribbon 1-2 inches from the end. Bend the wire back parallel to the end of the ribbon.
Spread the tacky glue from the wire up to the end. Then, fold the ribbon over. Let dry completely.
Stick a thumb tack through the hoop of the wire and into the wooden dowel. My warning is that the thumb tac can fall out. You might want to use gorilla glue or super glue to help it stay in. Use common sense by keeping it away from kids under 3.
You now have yourself a dancing ribbon wand.
Enjoy!
