This has been an interesting character development week for me. Generally I like to give you practical activities to take home and do with your own family. I still intend to give some ideas the next couple of days, but I guess what I’m learning this week is that deciding to work on availability simply means that you model it by making yourself available to whatever arises. Today our lives were put on hold for a very good reason. We made ourselves available to meet our new niece, Ainsley. Don’t you love the name? Of course, this wasn’t our plan today. We have had a different plan these last few days that have been put on hold because of our availability to others. Again, God had better plans. Errands can wait. My house keeping can wait. Availability means letting go of self. Our niece arrived at 10:02 AM after 8 hours of labor and 8 minutes of pushing. I have to say I was pretty jealous of such a quick first delivery, but I’ll get over it. When we got the call, we were getting ready to head out on our errands. Stop plan! Everyone get ready..Julie’s in labor. We’re heading to the hospital. Abby, grab snacks. Kenzie, grab books. I grabbed the coloring book, crayons an my latte, and we were out the door. God had such better plans to teach us about availability then I could have ever planned this week. I guess I would encourage you to just pray that God would give you opportunities to make yourself available to others. That’s how our week started, and those prayers have been answered. There’s always opportunity. Sometimes it takes slowing down long enough to see it.
so excited fo Julie! Give her my congrats and love! And what a cute name!
