This popsicle stick button frame is my AWANA Cubbies Bear Hug Craft #6. The rest of this series can be found if you hover over the craft tab on my blog. This craft is centered around the verse, “I am…wonderfully made…” Psalm 139:14. God made each person on this planet with their unique gifts, abilities and personalities. It is so important to teach kids how they are valued and how others are valued because they were created by God. Whether you adopt this craft for your own AWANA Cubbies meetings or do this craft with a Sunday School class, classroom or your own kids at home, it is a great way to show kids that they are important and loved. I am giving you my original plan for a craft, but also offering up to alternative options that may be easier for your group.
Materials Needed:
Craft Sticks (Thank you, Craft Project Ideas, for providing these)…often referred to as popsicle sticks
Picture of Child (3.5×3.5) or hand drawn self portrait
Buttons
White Glue
Glue Stick
Black Skinny Sharpie (not pictured)
Line up 11 popsicle sticks. Use white glue to glue down 3 popsicle sticks perpendicular to the stacked sticks.
Once glued, it will look like a raft. After you glue all three down, let it dry completely. You may want to do this one meeting prior to the day you want them to finish the craft. You could also prep by doing a bunch of these for the kids.
Flip over the platform and use a glue stick to glue down your picture.
Glue two sticks down vertically on both sides of the picture. Then, use two glue dots to glue down the top stick. On the bottom stick write down “I am…wonderfully made…” Psalm 139:14. You may want to do this in preparation before the craft if you are working with a large group of kids. Put down two glue dots to glue down the bottom stick.
Glue buttons all around the edge of the frame.
There are two alternative ways to do this craft:
Alternate 1:
Glue popsicle sticks together as shown above.
Glue picture on the back. Add buttons around the frame. You can write your verse instead of using buttons too.
Alternate 2:
Use the same frame as Alternate #1. Instead of using a picture, have the kids draw their own self portrait.
Jodi, It looks great! Yes, a two day drying time is probably a good thing!
