I have no desire to accumulate too much stuff. I am a purger by nature. I know there’s definitely a part of our culture and our nature that drives consumerism. I feel it in me and see it in my kids. One of the traditions I’ve tried to make happen in our family is to give away some things after receiving gifts for a birthday or Christmas. I think kids get bogged down with too much stuff. It limits creativity and can become overwhelming. They can lose focus and seem uninterested. I believe it’s healthy for them to be able to make some choices about what they can give to other kids that might not have as much. Birthdays and Christmas present the perfect platform for the discussion and the exercise. Kenzie’s birthday was yesterday, so today we make some choices.
