Easter Egg Craft with Textured Foam

Easter is right around the corner. I wanted to bring you a fun and super easy craft to do with kids of all ages. My daughter (age 5) was able to do these on her own. My son (age 3) had me help cut out the egg shape but he could cut and stick his other decorations on his own. This Easter egg craft was made with textured foam I found at the craft store the other day. It was one of those days I was running into the store to pick up one thing…one thing…but I saw the textured foam out of the corner of my eye and immediately knew what I wanted to do with them. I had been wanting to do an Easter craft with my kids, and the textured foam became the inspiration. We definitely try and teach the true reason to celebrate Easter around here. Our kids know it’s not about the eggs, the chocolate and the bunnies. These are symbols, but some of them do help remind us of Christ and what he did for us. They egg represents new life.

Here is the textured foam I purchased. I found the Text-Ur Brand on Amazon. I do have to say that I purchased it at Michael’s, on sale, for $1.99. You can buy it on Amazon or you can go seek it out for cheaper. I also bought these mini-foam stickers. I found a variety pack, but you could also buy a specific package like Foam Stickers 180/Pkg, Mini Hearts or Foam Stickers 120/Pkg, Mini Stars. I do have to point out that these eggs can be made with normal foam too. I just thought the texture added a lot of fun.

I made a printable egg shape for you so you would have the perfect size that fits two eggs per foam sheet. This is meant to be a template, so print it out onto stock paper and cut it out.

Your kids can trace around the egg template with a pencil onto the textured foam. They might need some help, depending on age, so be ready to assist.

Now it’s time to decorate. I gave them kid scissors so they could cut up the textured foam. I also provided the mini foam stickers, glue and glue dots.

The glue did work if things weren’t shifted around a lot. It did eventually dry and kept things in place even though I had my doubts as it didn’t seem to hold the foam in place like I had hoped. I found the Glue Dots easier to work with but either would work. You can see the my 3 year old preferred plain old white glue.

The kids made a variety of designs and had a lot of fun doing it. It was really a simple craft to prep, do and clean-up. These bright and textured Easter eggs bring a pop of color into our home this Easter.
