Generosity
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. – 2 Corinthians 9:7 (littler kids can memorize the underlined portion)
Today we we focused on giving of our resources. I don’t know if you are familiar with the book “Stone Soup.” It is about a village who doesn’t want to share with some hungry soldiers stopping through their town. The soldiers trick the villagers into giving of their resources by saying they know how to make a soup of stones. The result is everyone bringing food to go into the soup and enjoying the best meal of their lives together. I talked about how the had amazing results when they decided to share (even though it was a trick). I knew the book from teaching, but I don’t own it. I did, however, find it on YouTube and can share the video with you here.
I then talked about the Food Bank at our church and how it’s important to share the food we have since we have plenty and others do not. We went around our cupboards and loaded up some food to take over to the church together. I want to continue to model generosity so that my kids will adopt that spirit.
