These creative bagel breakfast ideas for kids are meant to bring a smile and inspiration. However, they serve a greater purpose than just providing examples of how to make food fun for kids. As you look at the cute animal bagels, I want you to take a moment to consider the importance of breakfast for kids  – really all of us. Breakfast is what fuels our children’s bodies to be able to head off to school and learn all day. It is was gives the energy for both work and play. Did you know that 3 out of 5 K-8 public school teachers report regularly seeing students coming to school hungry? creative-bagel-breakfast-ideas-for-kids

I grew up with some awareness of global suffering. I’ve slept on the floors of orphanages in foreign cities. I’ve built houses among shanties next to the garbage dumps in Tijuana. I’ve viewed people scavenging for food. My feet have walked the villages of Kenya and witnessed the skin on the bones of kids who come to school in torn clothes and no shoes.

I’m grateful for my experiences for they make we aware, sympathetic and give me a desire to take action for the plight of the poor. What I think I’ve been less aware of until more recently is that hunger is not just an overseas problem. It happens right in our back yards – here in the United States. It’s not an issue just facing a few families here or there. 1 in 5 children in America live in households without consistent access to adequate food. My eyes are tearing just thinking about it.

The issue of childhood hunger can feel overwhelming, can’t it? However, Albertsons is partnering with the “Hunger Is: campaign. The focus of the campaign is on expanding breakfast programs in order to provide children with a healthy start to their day. Her is their slogan: Make Breakfast Happen So Kids Can Be Hungry For More.

How can you help? There are two ways.

  1. Purchase participating items. There are certain brands that have teamed up with Albertsons to help raise money for “Hunger Is.”  Purchase of this item in September 2016 will trigger at least $0.10 donation up to $1 million. Look for tags on participating items in store or check your local Albertsons store to discover which brands, will be giving back to provide healthy breakfasts for kids.
  2. Donate at the register – shoppers can add a $1, $3, or $5, or any $ amount to their purchase. This option is NOT available for Jewel or United banners (Albertsons Market, Amigos, Market Street or United Supermarkets.

Albertsons is committed to this cause in every market. Every donation will be donated back to the local market through our 501(c )3 Foundation.

It’s that easy. I know that when you think of the enormity of child hunger and how it plagues our communities, it can seem insurmountable. I am so grateful to be able to partner with companies who care about the world around them. Albertsons is taking an issue that seems overwhelming and finding simple and positive ways to allow you to help make a difference in the lives of children.

Creative Bagel Breakfast Ideas for Kids

As you work to provide breakfast for your own family, I hope you’ll consider these creative bagel breakfast ideas for kids. Here is what you can do: 1) Head to Albertsons to get your ingredients. 2) Donate to the cause to help other kids get breakfast. 3) Head home to provide your own children with a bagel breakfast buddy. 4) As your kids eat their bagel animals, talk with them about childhood hunger. Give thanks and be grateful. Pray for those that don’t have and teach them that they too have the power to make a difference through giving and serving. We have a slogan in our family when the kids ask for extras at the store, “Spend less, give more.” These are lessons we can teach our kids daily.
