Love
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
Today we made a Heart Chain with 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” This passage helps kids (and all of us, really) understand the definition of love. Of course, only God’s love is perfect and this 1 Corinthians 13 DIY Heart Garland will give our kids understanding of His love. Knowing His love for us makes us want to live it out more with others. This lesson is part of my character development series. Please hover over my character development tab to learn more about all the traits we work on as a family.
To make this DIY heart garland, all you do is fold a fan in strips about 2.25 inches wide. Next, draw a half a heart connected on both sides as shown below. Cut it out. As Abby opened it, I loved the expression on her face because she had no idea what we were making. The kids traced this and did a number of them that we taped together. Kids can help fold, trace and cut. Older kids can write the passage on the hearts. My kids are still young, so I wrote the different elements of the verses as shown above. As I wrote each one down I discussed the meaning with the girls.
I hope you and your kids enjoy exploring 1 Corinthians 13 through this garland craft as much as we did. You can hang it in your home as a reminder of how much God loves us and how we are called to love one another. I hope you are finding my character development series helpful as you are raising your kids.
