This craft might be especially helpful for Sunday school teachers or Christian educators.
Angels are mentioned in the Bible many times, but there is no more celebrated time of these figures than the Christmas season. “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “Hark the Harold Angels Sing” are just two songs that bring out the majesty of the angelic figures that became a beacon to our Lord’s birth.
If you are like me, you want to focus on the true meaning of Christmas. This angel craft might be just what you are looking for today. However, I also have 35 Christ-Centered Christmas activities that are a great resource.
Here is one of the main Bible passages about angels and their role in the Christmas story if you want to read this to the kids before you jump into the craft:
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

How to Make this Angel Paper Plate Christmas Craft for Kids
- Take a paper plate and cut it in half. Cut one of those halves in half again. You will now have three pieces: 1 half of the paper plate and 2x 1/4 of the paper plate.
- Paint the paper plate blue. Lightly paint over the rim of the plate so the texture along the edge remains, creating a rough-looking blue and white edge.
- Take a glitter glue stick and create a squiggly line along the outer edges of each piece. I did not have a glitter glue stick, so I used glue and glitter. That is definitely a viable option that will yield the same results. I just know how some feel about glitter. Allow to dry.
- Take a 2 inch hole punch and punch a circle out of the cream colored paper.
- On that circle, draw an oval (singing mouth) and closed eyes. Kids can easily be taught how to do these eyes and mouth.
- Take a pipe cleaner and form into a halo. Twist at the end and bend that bit down. Leave enough to tape the halo end to the back of the circle head but trim to size.
- Cut out a small rectangular white piece of paper and fold into a song book.
- With the cream paper, cut out some small looking mitten hands. Kids might need help with that part.
- Now that you have done all the prep work and the paper plate is dry, cut slits in the paper plate using an X-acto knife as shown. Adults will want to be the ones using the X-acto knife. If you are uncomfortable with slit placement, you can always fold it into a cone first and then cut the slits, it’s just harder in the air.
- Fold your 1/2 paper plate piece so the edges meet and tape or staple in place.
- Put your 1/4 paper plate pieces (wings) into the two cut slots. Fold down the end inside the cone and tape into place.
- Using double stick tape or glue dots, attach the head and hand/song book combo.

Angels shouted out the message that Jesus was being born that first Christmas Day – the Savior of the world – the predicted Messiah – the Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, Prince of Peace prophesied in Isaiah.
I went to Israel in the fall, and I stood in a Shepherd’s cave in Bethlehem where this announcement may have been heard for the first time. Seeing the history of the Bible come alive on that trip was life changing.
May that grand truth speak to you in new ways the Christmas.
