Today, every meal and every snack was fun.
When I was little my mom used to make me Micky Mouse or smiley face pancakes. Breakfast was an ode to her. Generally, I just use a spoon and do the smiley face or Micky Mouse. However, today was special, so I broke out the pastry bag and got fancy. I basically drew the outline first and then filled in the picture. I took requests and ended up with Micky Mouse, a frog, a starfish, a smiley face, an M&M and a rocket ship.
For snack it was a peanut butter and banana caterpillar. This I stole from my friend, Jackie.
For lunch it was an owl sandwich inspired by www.cutestfood.com. Our dinner was also taken from this site.
Afternoon snack was strawberry mice with walnut ears, a frosting tail, mini chocolate chip nose and candy eyes (from Wilton – I got them for Christmas).
Dinner was spaghetti & meatballs.
Finally, dessert was inspired by my mom again. She used to make Jello Jigglers (“finger jello”) for me when I was a kid. The recipe is on the side of the Jello box.
Yum! I love this food post! Did you find that the kiddies were more inclined to eat the food when it was presented in such wildly fun ways?
I have found that it helps. I have also found that having a dip helps. They like to dip. Sometimes I try and find unique ways to serve it up – little bites they can poke with a toothpick or different shapes. One trick I have tried is putting different foods (introducing a few new things) in a muffin tin. I have also done a blindfold taste test. I try and get things they would enjoy so that they trust me. They get to be blindfolded and try and guess what I’ve given them. I guess the main goal is to have them have a healthy relationship with food.
You are so creative! Great ideas. I will have to try them on my charge 🙂

Oh my word those are some AMAZING lunches!! The nest turned out awesome! Would you please share this with our readers for Fun Stuff Fridays? http://www.toysinthedryer.com/2012/01/fun-stuff-fridays-6.html
So stinkin cute! Can’t wait to try the spaghetti and meatballs for my little princess who does not like ‘red sauce’ how did you make the eyes?
Thanks! I received the eyeballs for Christmas from my sister. They’re made by Wilton, so I would think you’d be able to get them at a craft store where cake making items are sold. I’m glad you enjoyed looking at them.
My children saw me reading this post and were sooo excited by all the food. It looks like now I have some cooking to do 🙂
Lou

What a fun idea! It’s the special days like this, that kids remember as the best! Thanks for sharing!
Oh those owls are cute. Everything is so fun. I would love for you to share at Bacon Time’s weekly friday – monday Anything goes linky party.
Love all of the cute things you’ve done, but the spaghetti nest and meatball birds is adorable. I’m going to have to see if I can manage that for my kids. Most of the things I’ve tried in the past I’ve had to explain what it’s supposed to look like. LOL
