One of the things I’m working on with my oldest is to really care for the younger ones. The philosophy is that we teach the younger ones to have respect and learn to honor their older siblings. The older ones learn to be a servant leader to the younger. There is some submission from the younger ones and authority with the older ones, but it’s all done within the goals of creating a relationship where there is mutual respect and honor. There are more privileges for the older ones, but there are also more responsibilities. Today I decided to take Abigail aside and talk to her about ways to really be generous with her little sister. I asked her to be a leader who would model it but also win the heart of her sister by being generous with her compliments, time, giving, sharing and letting her go first. You want to try and set the older ones up to be the hero of the younger. I kept reminding her throughout the day about her goals to be generous and tried to set her up for success. They watched a show today and Abby let her little sister choose which one. Abby won awards at our church Awana group tonight, and she shared with her sister. Abby decided she wanted to make some artwork for Kenzie. I set her up as the hero by giving her a treat she could give to Kenzie. Abby let Kenzie go first. With reminders of our goals to be generous, she had a successful day of learning to be a servant leader.
