I was staring out the window the other day and looked down at our patio. I thought, “Surely I can do something creative with the pattern in the stones.” I decided to try a giant word search. I would give my five year old words to find, and she would set out to find them. The rule was that the letters just needed to be touching each other in some way. Then, she’d walk to try and find them. How many words can you find? With Kenzie (age 3), I would say a sound, and she would have to find the letter that made that sound. You don’t need a grid to play this game either. Just write down letters in rows and columns. They could also circle the words with chalk if you wanted.

Excellent- awesome- cool- ingenious! These are the words I would include in your word search to describe this wonderful activity… :0)
LOL – Thanks. Maybe I should have hidden those in the search as some sort of subliminal message about my blog. 😉 Thanks for stopping by.
This is such a great idea. My 2 year old is just learning her letter sounds. (she only knows A and B) but this would be great practice for her. Thank you for sharing. http://sjthomeschool.blogspot.com/
