Our church just had a sermon on Gideon. The main point of the sermon is that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. When God approached Gideon about wanting him to be the leader who would defeat the Medianites, Gideon basically said, “I think you’ve got the wrong guy.” When God sent an angel to tell Gideon his purpose, he was a basic farmer in hiding and fearful. He listed off his weaknesses, but God doesn’t care about our weaknesses. He can use anyone. He actually likes to use people who are humble enough to admit their weaknesses because then it is evident that the strength is God’s alone. God alone will be glorified. So, God gave Gideon purpose. Gideon obeyed. God prevailed. It can be all of our stories if we choose to obey the plans God sets before us. The Bible teaches, “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to bring you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11 As the girls watched this Veggie Tale movie, I encouraged them to look for how God gave Gideon a purpose. Gideon chose to obey. Things were accomplished.
Purpose
“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that will prevail.”
– Proverbs 19:21
