I love finding different ways of teaching my kids letters and sounds. Movement makes it fun and never makes it feel like learning. This is a fun way to incorporate learning letters with music and dance. All I did was write letters all over the driveway. I then would play music. I have “Preschool of Rock” on Pandora, which has been fun for games like this. While the music was playing, the girls would dance around. When I stopped the music, I would yell out a sound. The girls would then race to find the letter. I originally just played it with Kenzie while Abby was at school (pictures above). When my 5 year old got home from school, she wanted to play too (no pictures). It worked well both ways. Kenzie enjoyed doing it by herself, but the element of competition made it fun also.
My daughter just started homeschooling her five year old. This sounds like a fun way to enhance learning the alphabet. I will pass it on to her.
What a fun idea. We actually did something similar with shapes and chalk in our driveway today (which I will hopefully post sometime soon). We didn’t use music, though; I like the idea of adding that next time. Thanks for sharing!
Just wanted to let you know I linked to your activity in a recent post. Love it! http://www.fullhands-fullhearts.com/2012/09/sidewalk-chalk-shapes.html
Thank you so much for linking back. I am glad you like the idea.
Can i ask, what kind of song should i use for this activity?
Anything that is fun for them. My kids love the Christian artists Toby Mac & Jamie Grace. You could look for a Pandora station for Kids bop or fun kid music. You could also turn on some fun oldies.
