OK – This is my last post about traveling with kids. This idea came from a friend of mine. She said her parents used to pack a bag of surprises. This is a bag filled with things new to them. To fulfill this idea, I headed to the Dollar Store as well as bought a couple extras at another store. Their bag included: a new coloring book, colored pencils, magnetic tin filled with magnetic fairy punch outs (Barnes and Noble), a book, stickers, board with plastic overlay where you can use a sharp object to write on over and over (a favorite – we played Pictionary), a rubber grabby hand, a pretend shoe with laces to practice tying shoes, and a Hidden Picture puzzle book. The key in packing this bag is building it up but saying they cannot open their own pack until after the plane is in the air. It really did keep them occupied the whole time. We had the IPAD as a back up, but we didn’t even consider pulling out a movie. Abby did play one game on it for about 15 minutes. We also worked on her homework.
The other tip is to pack snacks…lots of them. For some reason, I find my kids are hungrier when we are out and about. We didn’t go through them all. However, now we have tons of snacks available while we’re out and about in San Diego.
This is such a great idea! I bet they loved it! Games like pictionary are always fun! Thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend!
