I was asked to help decorate for a church baby shower. We used to do baby showers for each mom having a baby. However, with the growth of the church, especially in young marrieds, they decided a quarterly shower to celebrate all the babies born in that quarter would be a better solution. They, therefore, wanted decorations that could be used more than once. It is not reasonable to have to buy flowers for each shower. So, this was the solution. These flowers ended up going into hurricane vases – some filled with pink and blue layered jelly bellies and another with Froot Loops. I never got a picture of it. Sorry! However, I loved the outcome of the flowers, so I wanted to pass the technique on to you. I found out how to do them at LollyChops. I do almost 100% of my projects with kids, but this is one I did I my own.
The first thing you do is cut tissue paper into 5″x8″. Cut a bunch of these. You will need five pieces per flower.
Next, you will want to twist one sheet of tissue around a small ball. A golf ball is a perfect size. The ball pictured above is that size. You can twist one side shorter and the other longer. The “short” one pictured could even start a little shorter.
Now you can trim of the shorter side so it just has a nub.
You will twist up five of these for one flower.
I then took flower stamens I had for making gum paste flowers. You can find these in the cake section at a craft store. I am sure there is an option in the flower section also. I used three and tied them around one pedal. This was harder than it looks and took some effort.
Next I wrapped the base in floral wire and then in floral tape. I tried to have the open end of the pedals facing toward the center, but you can always adjust them later.
I used these floral sticks and then plastic straws to make the stem.
I attached the wire around the base of the flower. Then, I stuck the straw in the floral stick.
I used floral tape to wrap it all up.
There’s the result. I loved the outcome, but I do have to admit they were more work than I expected. Be prepared to put in some time to make them. This bouquet took at least a few hours.

Wow! What a beautiful and touching memory. I’m sorry for the loss of your dad at such a young age, but what a way to remember and honor him. Thank you for sharing your story with me, Mildred.
