Day #320 Finding Fair – Character Development, Week #46

Fairness
“Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
– Proverbs 31:9

I wanted to try and do a balance scale somehow this week. I was going to ask my Facebook friends if anyone had one. However, I found a way to make my own. We basically cut two ribbons the same length and looped them through a clothes pin. Then, we hung that on a plastic hanger. We talked yesterday about how life isn’t fair. It is very true. Sin has entered our world, and with it came a lot of pain. Often times, it is unequally distributed in this life. Despite that, God calls us to do what is right and fair. We need to do our best to create that balance. I wanted them to have the visual of things being fair or equal, and that is where the balance scale came into the picture. We played a fun game where the kids had to venture around the house and try and find things that might be equal. It was obvious when things were out of whack.

This is an awesome idea! I’ve been struggling with teaching fairness to my granddaughter, who will be 4 in January and also my 11 year old stepdaughter…and just last night thought up using a balance scale… and then wondered where I was going to get one of those! This is PERFECT!
