Thankfulness Verse of the Week
In my character-building series, there is always a verse of the week. Keep working on this verse daily with your kids so that everyone can commit it to memory. Of course, today’s lesson gets to explore the Bible more to discover that it has a lot of scripture about being thankful.
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

How to do this Thankfulness Lesson for Kids
The prep is easy! Through this thankfulness lesson, children will learn that treasure hunts are not limited to Easter. Every child loves the concept of hide and seek. Hunting and discovering build an innate excitement and curiosity. What better to build curiosity around than the Word of God?
- Print out my free T-H-A-N-K-S Bible Verse printable onto heavy cardstock. Normal paper can be used as well. I just like a sturdier version.
- Cut out each of the letters.
- Hide these letters around the house. You can choose one room or a few rooms. Little kids will need very simple hiding places. Older kids can have a bit more of a challenge.
- Explain to the kids that today we are going on a treasure hunt for the Word of God so we can learn more about gratitude.
- Every time a child finds a letter, have everyone stop. You are your kid can read the Bible verse out loud.
- Once it is read and possibly discussed, have them search for another letter.
- When all of the letters are found, put them in order and spell out thanks. For older kids who can spell, make it a word scramble for an extra challenge. If kids are of reaching age, have the kids read all of the verses together.
You might find the kids want to do it again. Kids might want to take turns hiding the letters. Learning the Bible – learning to give thanks – it’s fun!

Above is a picture of my kids doing this when they were little. I originally wrote this blog post in 2012, but it has been updated for clarity and better formatting. I also re-did the printable for quality purposes.
