Tonight we were going out to dinner. I decided to incorporate our pleasant teaching into this evening meal. Meal time can be a frustrating time. I don’t know if it’s the time of day, the fact that they are hungry or the fact they need to sit for longer periods of time. We are constantly working on improving things at meal times, and it has been happening in baby steps. Tonight I decided to reward based on pleasant vs. unpleasant behavior. If they were showing pleasant actions, they would get a little piece of candy (stolen from our fallen apart gingerbread house). If they were acting unpleasant, I would take a candy away. Generally, I don’t love to reward with food, but I think that in moderation, it’s OK. At the end of the meal, the candy became their dessert.
