In trying to be intentional with my kids, I’ve really learned how much they can really help. I have also learned how much they thrive under it and are becoming so creative with their own ideas. It’s fun to watch. So, rather than preparing for a party on my own while they are sleeping, I have then by my side and along for the ride…most of the time.
Twine Wreath
One thing Abby helped with is a twine wreath. You’ll have to tune in tomorrow to see the final product as the party will commence tomorrow with all of the decorations. Abby was super helpful as we were wrapping the twine around the foam circle. It would have actually been a lot more difficult without her, so I was grateful for the help. To make the wreath, you simple start with some hot glue and continue to wrap the twine around tightly and gluing it down occasionally. I finished it off with some paper flowers like I have made before. Yup – check in tomorrow for the final results. If you want a more thorough tutorial for the wreath, I found one at “A Glimpse Inside.”
Lemon Tartlets and Mini Cupcakes
I have shared the recipe for my lemon tartlets before. The theme for the going away party is “Back in the Olden Days,” and lemon just takes me to a different era. We also wanted things that were bite sized and easy to eat since we needed to prepare for a potential 100 people, so tarlets it was. I also made 200 mini cupcakes using my chocolate cake recipe. The kids got to dump and pour and did a great job.
A Banner
We made a cute banner together that says, “Back in the Olden Days.” The kids are getting awfully good with a glue stick.
Tomorrow will be the big reveal of all the preparation we have done.
Note: These activities were done over the last few days…thus the multitude of outfits. I do need to say that I experience a multitude of outfits every day anyway, so it doesn’t always mean a few days have passed. I just wanted to clarify that.
