This is a simple game. First, I used tape to create the ladder. Then, I wrote down high frequency words for Abby, and we did flash cards with letters and sounds for Kenzie. The goal is to move all the way up the ladder. If you get the word right, you advance to the next rung. If you get it wrong, you fall all the way back to the bottom. The can work for kids on all levels and subjects. It can be used for vocabulary, reading, math facts, foreign language practice – the possibilities are endless.
I really like this idea! I will have to try this with my boys! Thanks!
I hope they enjoy it. My girls ended up hopping up the ladder, which was fun for them.
I love this idea. I am always trying to come up with active ways to teach literacy for those little ones that don’t like to sit down long enough to write or work on letters and words. Thanks for sharing on Thinky Linky Thursday!

It’s all about making it a game. I was at the park today and even thinking I could tape the words onto the rungs of the climbing things.
What a wonderful game! Thank you for sharing at Sharing Saturday!! I hope you are having a great week!
What a great idea for using word ladders.

Thanks! Cool that you’re doing them too. I bet your kids love the pirate version.
