Kindness in your Face

Today we talked about how a simple way to show kindness to others is smiling.  This is how you show kindness in your face. The poem below says it perfectly, so I read it to the girls.  After I read it through once, I read it one more time and explained it a little more as I wanted to make it a bit more age appropriate by explaining some of the bigger vocabulary.

Tennis Ball Smiley Face Kindess

Smiling is infectious; you catch it like the flu.
When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too.
I passed around a corner and someone saw my grin.
When he smiled, I realized I had passed it on to him.
I thought about that smile and then I realized its worth.
A single smile, just like mine, could travel around the earth.
So if you feel a smile begin, don’t leave it undetected.
Let’s start an epidemic quick and get the world infected.
I then found this video on YouTube about kindness.  Don’t love the music, to be honest, but the words are great.  We watched it through once and then played a game.
We drew smiley faces on old tennis balls and played catch.  I would play the music on the YouTube video, when I stopped the music they had to stop and whoever was holding the ball was the one we had to try and make smile. It usually was by tickling, but sometimes just a smile or a hug made it work.  It was a visual demonstration on how we can pass kindness along through a simple smile.
