The Best Oreo Cream Cheese Frosting
I love making cakes. It’s a favorite hobby of mine. Check out all of my cake designs here.
What I love about the art of cake baking and decorating is that the creation is consumable, and it’s a hobby that makes people happy. Developing flavors can be just as fun as the decorating process.
This frosting was came about by taking components of my favorite buttercream frosting and adding in the Oreo and cream cheese. The addition of heavy whipping cream takes a bite out of the sugar. The salted butter and salt addition also cuts through some of the sweetness.
These ingredients work together to create the best sandwich cookie frosting.
Ingredients Needed to Make the Oreo Cookie Cream Cheese Frosting
Yields enough frosting for 12 cupcakes.
- 8 oz package of cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/4 cup salted butter, room temperature
- 3 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 Tbsp heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 C finely crushed Oreos – about 9 Oreos (I crush them in the food processor to make sure the pieces are tiny and won’t get stuck in my piping tips. If you are going to spread the frosting, it might be fun to use bigger chunks of Oreo)
How to Make the Best Oreo Cream Cheese Frosting
- Whip together the cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy.
- Mix in powdered sugar, one cup at a time. Always start the mixer on low and then gradually add speed so you don’t have an explosion of powdered sugar.
- Add vanilla extract, whipping cream and salt. Stir until combined.
- Gently stir in crushed Oreos.

Hi!! how long can this be kept in the fridge?
I normally serve it within a couple days, but I googled it, and in general it seems that cream cheese frosting last for a few days in the refrigerator or in the freezer for a month. Sorry it took so long to write back. I’ve been out of town!
