This end of summer cleaning checklist is not meant to scare or overwhelm you. By all means, relax and enjoy the rest of your summer. However, know that going into the fall clean and organized feels wonderful. As kids head back to school, a clean start provides for a fabulous school year with your kids. Also, as kids return to the classroom, taking your teacher some extra Lysol® cleaning supplies would be very thoughtful.
Taking care of the cleaning early kickstarts a fall where you can focus on homework, after school activities and volunteering or working. This #CleanStart post is sponsored by Lysol® & Finish® at Walgreens. All thoughts and ideas are my own.
Why not clean in the fall when the kids are back in school? I believe having the little ones around helping get the house in order before fall begins is a great opportunity to teach kids what it means to be a part of a family. It teaches responsibility. If you all plan to do a little bit together every day in August, the end of summer cleaning won’t feel daunting. You’ll be right alongside your kids teaching them how to organize and clean the right way. You will all feel a calm as you start the year right.
End of Summer Cleaning Checklist – Supplies Used
Walgreens provided the cleaning supplies I needed. I often wipe down my home with a damp rag throughout the year. However, there are a couple products that make the deep cleaning that happens at the end of the summer easier and provides the disinfecting power to wipe almost all the germs away: • Lysol® Disinfectant Wipes in Lemon • Lysol® Disinfectant Spray in Crisp Linen.
At Walgreens, I also picked up Finish Quantum dishwasher tablets to keep those dishes sparkling clean throughout the year because kids need clean dishes to eat off if they’re going to start and finish a successful year!
These Lysol® cleaning products can be found here.
Lysol® is the exclusive household cleaning brand to partner with Box Tops for Education™, so while we are going through our end of summer cleaning checklist, we are also supporting our children’s school. Now that’s a win! Lysol® Disinfectant Wipes are always on a child’s back to school supply list, so make sure to pick up some extra while you are shopping. Help support your school, one clean surface at a time!
Here are some upcoming Walgreens Promotions to help your budget as you prepare for your cleaning extravaganza:
- You can buy Lysol for $2.49 (35 ct Wipes, APC cleaners, Bathroom cleaners), as found in the Sunday Paper in the Walgreens weekly ad or Walgreens stores at the shelf.

End of Summer Cleaning Checklist
This end of summer cleaning checklist (free download) has been created so that you and your kids can easily be aware of and check off the tasks as your accomplish them.
One thing I feel compelled to mention is the freedom our family has found in purging. We have discovered that the more stuff we have, the more cluttered and overwhelmed we all feel. I would encourage you to, while you are cleaning and organizing, put careful thought into how much stuff your family actually needs.
Work together as a family team. Don’t make this cleaning time a down point of the day. These may be unique jobs to your kids, so there is a level of excitement in the novelty. Turn on some music. Give everyone a manageable task for the day, and build into the family team mentality. Try and keep enthusiasm up and get through the assigned task quickly. Kids can even look at the checklist and pick their own job to accomplish.
I’ve found that for wiping down drawers, drawer fronts and cabinet fronts, Lysol® disinfectant wipes work perfectly. For countertops and other flat surfaces, I prefer the spray. Kids will need to be taught the proper amount to use.
