I’m not a huge mixed drink girl. If I have a drink, I might have a beer or glass of wine once or twice a week. However, I found this drink on our recent trip to Hawaii, and it became my new favorite mixed drink. I paid attention to the ingredients. Then, we went out of our way another day to return to the restaurant just to order another one, and we sat at the bar to watch for further instructions. I’m pretty sure I have it down pretty well.
Thai Margarita
1/4 cup sweet and sour mixture (I made my own…best way I think, so I’ll add that recipe too)
4-6 muddled kaffir lime leaves (muddled just means scrunched up…I put the lime leaves in the sweet and sour mixture and ground it down)
1 Heaping Tbsp Coconut Cream (this is different from coconut milk, but if you can’t find it you can either scoop of the top of the coconut milk without mixing it or cook down the coconut milk to thicken it)
2 Tbsp Suaza Blue Reposado (a form of Tequila)
Put all the above ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake it up. Dump the entire drink (ice & kaffir lime leaves included) and enjoy!
Where on earth would you find kaffir lime leaves?
Good point! I totally take for granted that I live in the Pacific NW and have access to all sorts of Asian markets. You would want to find one that has Thai ingredients. Probably too much work, but if you’re really wanting to try it, you can buy them here http://importfood.com/spws0101.html – they freeze well.
OH, yummy yummy–can NOT wait to try this. We just returned from Hawaii too- what island did you go to?
We were on Kauai and had a blast. I hope you enjoy this drink.
Thank you SO much for pulling together the details. That exact Thai Margarita in Hawaii is my favorite drink that I’ve ever had! I even took a photo of the ingredients listed on their menu back in 2012! Ive been thinking about it ever since.
Oh yay! Glad you found this. Enjoy!
