Day #176 Humility Word Ring – Character Development, Week #26

Humility
“He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble His way.” – Psalm 25:9

Definition: a modest or humble view of one’s importance
Antonym: pride

Reason Chosen: God calls us to be humble. Humility doesn’t mean not liking yourself or having a low self esteem. It is the recognition of all our gifts and abilities coming from God. It involves seeing the value in other people.  Being humble is part of learning to love, be patient, be submissive, and be kind. By being humble, we recognize our own sin and need for God. Without our acknowledgement of that sin, we see no need for Jesus and his sacrificial gift of the cross. Pride is a turn off in relationships and often leads to the fall of that individual. We learn that our weaknesses open up the opportunity for God to reveal His strength. It is important to teach kids that self esteem isn’t about being proud or verbally lifting oneself up. In actuality, it is often the people with the lowest self esteem that exhibit these characteristics.

Word Ring At the beginning of each week, the craft will be exactly the same because we will simply be adding a new word to our already established word ring.

Materials Needed
* Stock Card Paper (I had a whole stack like this – found at any craft store)
* Assorted Sticker Letters (I just bought a bunch on clearance at Michael’s)
* Binder Clips (Craft Store)

* Paper Cutter or Scissors

* Hole Punch

The girls chose a paper style they thought would look good with the letters they chose.  We then helped them sound out “humility.” They took turns finding the letters we needed and sticking them on the paper…they’re kids – the letters will not be stuck on perfect.  I then cut the paper to the same size as the paper from last week. We punched a hole in the corner and stuck it on our binding clip.  Each week, a new word will be added to the clip in similar fashion.  I then wrote the Bible verse on the back.  If your kids are older, have them do it themselves.  We’ll spend this week learning the word, meaning and memorizing the scripture.
