Teaching Kids Contentment with “I Will” Statements
Contentment
“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Hebrews 13:5
We have now adopted “I Will” statements for our character development series. We made this cute board to highlight the focus phrases. I got the idea for “I Will” Statements from “Character First,” a character based curriculum. Although I haven’t used a lot of their content, I wanted to give them credit for this idea. Our four phrases this week are:
1. I will be content with what I have.
2. I will not compare myself to others.
3. I will focus on helping those with less.
4. I will be grateful.
This main concept was used, with permission, from the Character First Education Curriculum.

Perfect timing…Audrey was here sitting in my lap after I just had a very long conversation with her about being grateful for the things you have and showing thankfulness when she is given a gift. And just as we finished I clicked on your blog and she asked, “What is that?” Coincidentally, this weeks word was “contentment.” Right then I was able to reinforce to her with a verse and “I will” statements the same lesson I was trying to teach. Thank you Jodi!:)
That’s awesome, Tricia!
Being grateful, and appreciating the things you do have, instead of focusing on what you don’t, has been a HUGE part of our daily discussions lately! I really this this idea.
