We have now adopted “I Will” statements for our character development series. We made this cute board to highlight the focus phrases. I got the idea for “I Will” Statements from “Character First,” a character based curriculum. Although I haven’t used a lot of their content, I wanted to give them credit for this idea. Our four phrases this week are:
1. I will finish my work completely.
2. I will pay attention to the details.
3. I will make a list.
4. I will clean up when I am finished.
This main concept was used, with permission, from the Character First Education Curriculum.
I am very curious on what prompted you to start a Character development series. I am currently reading a book by Kevin Leman “Have a New kid by Friday” and he talked about building characater
I really don’t know what prompted it, other than saying God. I was not involved in the blogging world at all before I started mine. I didn’t even have blogs I followed. My husband’s uncle suggested I do a blog, and I said I had no interest and pushed off the idea. That is, until 3 days before I launched it. I really hadn’t given it much thought. With three days until launch I just suddenly had insight on the things that were important to me in raising a family. I had the end results in mind for my kids. I knew character development was extremely high up on my list. It completely related to the Christian concepts I was trying to teach. So, that’s when I came up with the blog having 3 components: parenting tips (which I’ve received along the way and have found extremely helpful), character development, and crafts and activities. I’ll have to write down the name of that book and look into it. Thanks for telling me about it.
