Our church has a purpose statement, but I thought it would be good to adopt our own purpose statement. Then, I realized our church’s purpose statement is really good and should be ours as well. So, I thought up a craft. Well, the craft was a colossal failure. The concept was to take a canvas and write on it with glue. The glue would dry in a bubble. When the glue dried, I would just paint over it in a solid color, and you have a monochromatic piece of art. It didn’t work. The glue dried really flat. I then tried to write over it again to see if I could build it up more, but that didn’t work. Sometimes there’s a reason plans fail. The next project was way better.
I had another idea, but I didn’t have another canvas. So, I used a foam board, which I did have. I also had some foam letters I had purchased at the Dollar Store a while back. All I did was draw some level lines to make everything straight, stuck on the foam letters and painted over it in a solid color. I think the results are better than my original idea. It gave us a chance to talk about our purpose statement:
1. Love God – Part of believing in God is loving him – His grace, love, holiness and goodness. Part of that is loving the laws he has in place for our benefit.
2. Love One Another – This is the concept that we are to care for our community of believers. We are to show love through our words and actions. We are suppose to care for each other as a family.
3. Love the World – This is not the concept of loving worldly things but of loving every person God created. This means taking care of the poor, the widow and the orphan. It is teaching others about Christ through love.
