My little guys is now two years old. It is tricky having a child’s birthday around the holidays. We celebrated with my family on Thanksgiving day. We are celebrating with my husband’s family this coming weekend while we are out of town on a family trip. It didn’t make sense to plan a big party to compete with everything else going on. I wasn’t planning anything, really. Then, the mommy guilt set in. I’ve always done parties for my kids. They always include cakes. To just ignore the actual day just because his birthday happens around Thanksgiving didn’t seem right. So, at the last minute, I decided I would do a cake. I made the pound cake recipe I gave you yesterday. We talked about what the theme should be with the girls. I thought it should be airplanes. My husband thought it should be race cars. Abby thought it should be Spiderman. Kenzie thought it should be a cupcake themed birthday. So, we gave him those options to let him weigh in. He said race cars. Race cars it was. My husband and I worked together to complete his cake the night before his actual birthday. The cars were sculpted by my man. He’s got mad skills. Corban didn’t sleep well the night before his birthday. He has had croup and has been fairly sick. He is also teething, and it’s causing more pain than in the past. He woke up on his birthday miserable. At times the only thing that would calm him down was looking at his cake, which was really cute. We ended up having an impromptu birthday dinner gathering with his grandma and great grandpa. He was so excited to show them his “race car cookie.” He kept calling it a cookie. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and fun cake together.
