Spray paint your frame in the color you want. I chose a classic black with a semi-gloss finish.
We hung the frame on the wall exactly where we wanted it.
While the frame was hanging there, we (that’s a royal we, my husband did all of this) traced around the inner edge. This became the guideline of where to paint.
The final step is to use chalkboard paint to paint in the rectangle. You will want to go just over the line you traced. A bonus is that the chalk fits nicely into the bottom of the frame. I am loving this option, and at least one person has gotten her tupperware back since I have started using it.
The final part of the re-do was the closet doors. These ones were OK, but they often fell of the track when we’d open the doors. They also wouldn’t stay shut and were difficult to close.
I agree with your wise words, but I can’t take my eyes off the gorgeous closet doors!! Will you share where they came from? Thanks. Jane (jane12734@aol.com)
Jane – I got them at Lowe’s. They are normal doors that my husband installed on sliders. I tried to find a link for you, but I can’t find them. They were purchased straight from the store – no custom order or anything. Thanks for the compliment.
You both have mad skills! And a lovely home!
Love how the closet doors look! Could you share more about how you hung the doors. Need do this for a master bedroom closet.
I would appreciate the help as I am needing to do this myself.
Sorry for the delay…I kept forgetting to ask my husband. We bought a stanley sliding door track kit at Lowes. Here is an affiliate link to the same on on amazon…they have different kits for different size openings. Stanley S40 3160 72 In. By-Pass Hanging Door Hardware
You should have written it down on your chalk board to ask him…
Hahaha. I’ll ask him and get back with a response.
I love the closet doors. Did the doors have to be trimmed to fit?
Thanks so much. No – We bought these as is from Lowe’s. We were so happy to find something that worked.
These doors are beautiful. Could you ask your husband if those are hollow core doors? Much appreciated.

I did. He says he is not sure. I’m sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I asked and then forgot to come back and respond. I’m sorry we can’t help more.
I have been wanting to do something different with a closet and your project has given me direction. It looks really wonderful. Thanks for all the information. I’ll have to hire someone to do my DIY because I’m not skilled and my husband will never get to it. Be thankful for a man who can and will. It looks beautiful.
I’m so thankful for my husband in that regard too. I hope it turned out wonderful! It’s a simple little project, but it’s a super fun feature. 🙂
