I have always love dressing up, and I am so glad I married a man that was willing – even excited – to join in the fun. This year I am brining to you our own family Halloween costume idea. We decided to dress up as those character you hear about but never really see.
This year we were Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, a gnome and a leprechaun. I love family themed costume ideas, and I hope you will check out some of our other ideas from years in the past: Piñata Costume, Muppets Costume, 15 Creative Family Costume Ideas and our Super Hero Costumes, and a number of our other Costumes from the Past, which includes some of my pregnancy costumes. As you can see, we really get into it. Halloween Express might be a great place to look if you are trying to come up with ideas for your own family.
I love trying to brainstorm what we might do, and my brainstorming tends to begin November 1st. I have kids with opinions now to consider, and I’m wondering how long they’ll put up with me. They’ve been all in, for the most part. Corban has been a little hesitant about the leprechaun idea…actually, the dressing up idea all together. He wanted to carry his nerf bow and arrow, and we considered making him Cupid, but he wasn’t keen on wearing a loin cloth. So, we finally convinced him to be a leprechaun and told him he could carry his bow and arrow if he wished. We try to brainstorm as a family and almost did the Frozen theme, but the kids ended up moving away from that idea. We landed on these allusive and yet familiar characters. Curious about our opinions on Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc.? Please visit my post on the topic.
I do need to add a note that we are moving away from traditional Halloween ideas. While I love dressing up, and I grew up wanting to make my entire house look haunted, I have felt more conviction lately to move away from the scary and evil side. We head to a harvest party at our church, don’t decorate and always choose family friendly costumes. I am not legalistic about it and believe that there are a lot of Bible passages giving us freedom to make some of these choices. However, this is just a decision we have made for our own family.
I also need to add in a picture of our good friends from church. They dressed up at Despicable Me 2, and they nailed it.
You guys were super cute! Today, we were all talking about what we’re going to be next year too! I love how the kids get so excited about dressing up all together as a theme – I hope it never ends. Well, at least until they move out.
I know! I am glad they are still all in on the family theme. It’s so fun. You guys are always fabulous. I think we have a little unspoken bond/competition going on. You always pull something amazing out!
