To celebrate a friend’s birthday, I set the table scene by creating flower paper napkin folding with sunflower table decorations. Her personality is nothing but sunny, so to do bright colors and flowers was a perfect fit. Decorating with sunflowers and bright colors is fun for the spring, but the table cloth can be easily switched out for a beautiful fall look. If you are decorating for the fall, you also might want to consider this white pumpkin centerpiece idea.

Flower Paper Napkin Folding with Sunflower Table Decorations
Because napkin folding can be complicated, I created a photo visual tutorial as well as a written and video tutorial. Although the results of these folded flower napkins looks complicated, it’s a fairly simply folding technique, which can be mastered and quickly applied to your tablescape.
How to Fold Paper Napkins into a Flower – Tutorial
I used yellow napkins, but you can really use any color or pattern to match your own tablescape.
- Open the napkin into a large square.
- Fold in the corners to the center.
- Fold the new corners into the center.
- Carefully flip the napkin over, keeping the fold in place.
- Fold the new corners into the center.
- Reach behind each corner and pull the back flap out and pull it a bit and reposition it so it cups around the middle of the petal.
- Reach in between each petal to pull out the triangle.
- Set the “You are Lovely” center into the center of each napkin to create the sunflower look.

I created a free printable for you. This printable is perfect for birthdays. It says, “You are Lovely. Happy Birthday!” If you would like this adapted to personalize it or want it to say something different, please email (email found in the contact me section of my blog). I do this kind of personalized request for a $5 service fee. Cutting out the printable and putting it in the center of your flower makes it look more like a sunflower.
I bought the tablecloth you see here at Target years ago. I found an aqua and white tablecloth one on Amazon that is comparable, and that I actually like more. I hope that helps as you try and re-create this scene. This tablecloth comes in a variety of colors, so just click through to find the one you want.
Adapting for a Fall Tablescape with Sunflowers
If you are wanting your sunflower decor to be more of a fall look, I really like the idea of doing a simple cream tablecloth like this one. You could do a burlap table runner as well.
Flower Paper Napkin Folding with Sunflower Table Decorations – Putting it All Together
To put it all together, iron (my least favorite part) your table cloth and lay it on the table. I used my wooden chargers for under the white plate. Set your silverware. Put the napkin on the plate and the “You are Lovely” printable in the center.
In the center of the table, put sunflowers in large mason jars.
I love to do drinks in medium sized mason jars.
Made these folded napkins for a vow renewal party and they are so cute! Thanks for the idea and the instructions!
Thanks so much for letting me know. So glad to help. 🙂
