I have a confession. I have a jean problem. This jean organization idea is something I came with to help me with this issue. Reading further, you might find you have a similar jean problem, and I figured my organizational system might also help you. After all, part of starting a new year (Happy 2016 Everyone!) is a celebration of new starts – a bit more organization, a bit more direction and a bit more purpose. Today, I’m tackling getting things in order…starting with jeans.
OK, so what’s my issue? I have a hard time getting rid of jeans. I’m a 5’3″ girl whose body fluctuates…up a little, down a little. It does this from day to day and month to month. It’s after the holidays, so I may have had my share of chocolate, appetizers and meals. Maybe…just maybe…I’m up a few pounds. I need jeans to accommodate that. I might be motivated now to be a bit more disciplined – eating healthier and being more regimented in my workout routine. I will probably go down a few pounds. Maybe I get super discipline and motivated dropping a couple more. On my 5’3″ frame, the loss or gain of a few pounds really does make a difference.
Due to my fluctuating size, I don’t like to get rid of jeans. Further, a friend of mine hands me down all of her nice, designer jeans when they don’t fit her anymore adding to my jean collection. I have a whole drawer full of jeans. Yes, I have one or two that are my go-to favorites. Some of the rest, however, sit unworn.
Why do they sit so sad and lonely? Often it is because I don’t know their specs and don’t want to figure it out each time. Are they the jeans I wear when I’m up a few pounds, down a few pounds or where I generally sit at in weight? What is their cut? Skinny, boot or straight legged? Are they jeans that fit with my flat shoes or my heels? There are such a variety of jeans one can have in their collection and some simply go unnoticed because of unknown fit components.

I needed a solution, so I came up with a simple idea that might just help you too. This is not my normal topic on Meaningful Mama, but I do like to give DIY and hack ideas that might help you, my readers, if you find out you are in the same situation.
I bought two items to help with my jean organization idea:
- PEPPERLONELY Brand 100PC Silver Tone Connector Clasp Ball Chains Keychain Tag 10cm(3-7/8 Inch)
- Avery Metal Rim Key Tags, Card Stock/Metal, White, 50 per Pack (11025)
I simply wrote down the description of the jean – fit, length and cut. I then used the ball chain to attach it to the loop of the jeans. I did this on each one, folded them the same way so that tag revealed the description and then added them to my drawer.
Now that they are organized, I can quickly see the specs of the jeans and make a choice. Today I can go grab my jeans with a more generous waist and a short length to go with my casual attire. It’s as easy as that. My jean organization ideas is a simple solution for one of my 1st world problems.
