This recipe for banana bread is manageable for even your most basic chef. I always remind people that when baking, the most important thing is to measure accurately and read carefully. My 10 year old daughter just made this recipe on her own, and it turned out perfectly. Everything is made in one bowl, which adds to the simplicity and limits the clean-up involved.
This recipe turns our moist and yet has a nice texture on the outside.
My kids love to throw in some chocolate chips, so that’s definitely an option to make it more of a sweet experience. My husband and I prefer it without. Another option is to throw in some chopped nuts.
Some people begin to doubt their bananas. They begin to think they are probably too ripe. I have rarely found this to be the case. In my opinion, the riper the better. Ours are almost all black when we use them for this recipe for banana bread.

This recipe was originally written in January of 2012. It was actually the 4th post I ever wrote. I finally updated it with better pictures, but the recipe remains the same.
That loaf of banana bread looks beautiful and delicious! Is that really just two bananas, or should it say three?
what is – shortening? i’m in uk and have no idea what that is, xxx
“Shortening is any fat that is solid at room temperature and used to make crumbly pastry.” Here’s a link to the best description I could find: http://www.bhg.com/advice/food/desserts/if-a-baking-recipe-calls-for-shortening-can-i-use-butter-or-margarine-instead/ I hope that helps. If you use butter instead of Crisco for this recipe, will you let me know how it goes. Thanks!
This recipe is perfect! tried it last night and it’s just the consistency I was looking for. The only thing I did different was add a 1/4 tsp of cinnamon and I used butter flavored crisco rather than straight shortening.
Thanks so much for commenting. Sounds like great additions/changes. 🙂
