This particular Easter craft focuses on the significance of the cross. Not only does it represent Jesus’ sacrificial death for our sins, but it also presents the truth about Jesus’ resurrection. If the resurrection had not occurred, Jesus would have been just some guy claiming to be the Messiah.
However, the resurrection did happen. Jesus conquering death shows us that we too can conquer death and receive eternal life. That is why we do Easter crafts with our kids.
Is the Resurrection of Jesus True?
Do you have doubts about the resurrection of Jesus? I’ve been there, so I get that. If you do, take a bit of time to explore the claims. Start here. If that has piqued your interest, and you want to read more, here are some great books that might help: The Case for Easter, The Case for Christ (more general than just the Resurrection), Mere Christianity, and Evidence that Demands a Verdict (super heady).
I believe the hope in the resurrection is what brings us hope, and that is a truth we want to pass on to our kids. Many think Christianity is about a list of rules that we need to do to make us “good.” In contrast, the truth about Christianity is that it is a recognition that none of us are ever good enough.
We need a Savior so that we can be reconnected with a holy and good God. As we fall in love with God more, knowing and experiencing His love for us, our actions do follow. That said, it is by grace alone and through faith alone that we are forgiven. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works so that no one can boast.”
Please let me know if you want more information about the gospel and putting your faith in Jesus. I’d be so blessed to walk alongside you in that process.
Materials Needed to Make this Salt Painting Easter Cross Craft
- Cross Outline – Free Printable (optional)
- Card Stock – White or Light Colored
- Pencil
- Salt – Fine
- White Glue
- Water Color Paints
- Paintbrushes
- Jar of Water
How to Make This Easter Cross Craft for Kids
- On cardstock paper, lightly outline a cross in pencil. I provided a cross printable if you want to cut that out and trace it, but the design can be drawn freehand as well. A ruler will help keep things straight. I suggest cardstock, as it is thicker paper, so the glue will not seep through and the paper will not become misshapen.
- Trace the cross in white glue.
- Sprinkle salt onto the glue, making sure to cover all the glue design. Then shake the excess salt off into a bowl so the excess salt can be reused for additional salt art paintings. If this is the only salt painting Easter cross craft you are doing, extra salt can be discarded.
- Allow the glue and salt to dry. Depending on temperature and humidity levels, white glue takes about 30 minutes to an hour to set and dry.
- Before painting shake the paper off again to remove additional salt that may be loose.
- Use a paintbrush to apply the watercolor paint onto the paintbrush, and touch the salt. The salt will absorb and spread the watercolor paints.
- Continue until your design is complete.
Salt painting is such a fun, easy, and beautiful craft for kids. To combine salt painting with an Easter cross craft brings meaning and significance. It can also be a springboard to discussions with your kids about the proofs of the resurrection. It’s important to start faith conversations young.
