“Give thanks to the Lord…who made the great lights…sun…moon and stars…” – Psalm 136:3, 7-9
Today I bring you Sun, Moon and Stars – AWANA Cubbies Bear Hug #4 Craft. If you have found interest in my AWANA Cubbies series, then I think you’ll really enjoy this next craft representing the great lights that God created. Like all the crafts, it goes along with Cubbies but can be a lesson in and of itself.
Paint – black and white (grey), red, orange and yellow
Dark Blue & Light Blue Paper (1 for each kid in the dark and 1/2 for each kid in the light)
Cup to trace the size of the sponge (not pictured)
Q-Tips (not pictured)
Cut the lighter paper in half. Use a glue stick and stick it down on half of the darker blue paper.
Print out the verses and cut out one for each kid in preparation for your Cubbies meeting.
Have your child paste down the verse at the top of the paper.
Find a cup to trace around and trace with a Sharpie on the sponge. Cut out where you traced. You will want two sponges – one for the sun and one for the moon. You might want a few different stations set up, so just buy as many sponges as you might need. Make sure this is all prepped prior to your AWANA or Sunday School meeting.
If you have three paint colors for the sun, squirt them out on a plate. Swirl with a q-tip, but do not mix completely.
Have the kids dip the sponge in the paint and press it onto the lighter blue paper. Have them use a q-tip to pull away from the paint to create the rays of the sun.
Mix the grey paint by combining black and white (or you might just start with a grey paint). Like the sun, just let them dip it and stamp.
