Board Games that Teach Self Control

We are a gaming family. We all love that time together, but as a mom, I love the variety of skills kids learn through game playing. While games teach so much about reading, math, colors, problem solving, and logic, it can also teach important character qualities. Kids learn to take turns, be honest, play fair and more. It is self control week in our character development series, and I thought I would bring to you a variety of  board games that teach self control. board games that teach self control. Today’s lesson in self-control involved the game of Jenga. We told the girls that self-control often requires you to act slowly and be very thoughtful in your actions. We also related it back to our Bible verse and showed that if you don’t have self-control the walls come tumbling down. I have put together a list of board game resources for you. While some of these games tackle the subject of self control more directly, some of the games are games you might have on hand that can address the topic of self-control simply through discussion of the topic while the game is being played.

The games that teach self control directly are great for kids who have more extreme challenges in this area often due to components like ADHD, impulsive control, anger problems and autism. Other games like Twister, Jenga, and Operation are a more mild introduction to the topic. All games teach self control in that kids need to learn to patiently wait their turn, use muscle control, be a gracious loser and  learn to not cheat. I encourage you to get playing games with your kids so they can learn a variety of life skills.
