This is one of those recipes passed down from my husband’s great grandmother. No chocolate cookie, in our opinion, compares. I thought I came into the marriage with the best chocolate chip cookie, but I have officially yielded my opinion. This is also the cookie we delivered on our random act of kindness tour.
1 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup white sugar
1 Tbsp water
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
2 to 2 1/4 cups flour
1 cup chocolate chips (the recipe calls for 3/4 cup, but we like a full cup)
Slightly melt butter in microwave (I did mine about 18 seconds). Add sugar, water, eggs and vanilla. Mix until creamy. In a separate bowl, combine dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients and mix it all together. Batter will be slightly creamy. Add chocolate chips and stir in by hand. Bake 10-12 minutes at 350. We cook them about 10 minutes. They don’t look 100% cooked at that point, but continue cooking and settle in when they get out of the oven.
I have baked and eaten many good cookies, but there is always room for one more great recipe. I can’t wait to give this a try.
If you try it out and find it fails to meet up to your other chocolate chip cookie recipe, I will definitely need to get my hands on yours.
These cookies look amazing. And I am loving the fact that you let your kiddos lick the beaters!!!
What would life be without licking the beaters? Thanks for your comments.
I am going to try out this recipe, will be getting ingredients tomorrow will let you know how they turn out. Thanks for sharing a family recipe with us
You’ll definitely have to let me know how they turn out.
Hello just wondering what you would suggest replacing the butter flavoured shortening with if you are unable to get it here in Australia?
Many thank
This is what I found on Google: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081216203044AAqVSK It sounds like you can just substitute it with butter. Now I want to ry it. Let me know how it goes.
Thank you 🙂 I used Nutlex instead of butter, they tasted yummy, next time I will try just butter as Nutlex is a different consistency. They didn’t look as good as your picture though 😉
I enjoy collecting all types of recipes. Adding this one to my collection is wonderful. Since retiring, I love to bake even more and especially for giving as gifts to family and friends. thanks
Glad you are adding it to your collection. I can’t imagine you’d be disappointed.
