Attentiveness Challenge with the Object Game

Paying attention isn’t always easy for kids (or with kids for that matter…my ability to concentrate on a task is dwindling). Kids often see something shiny, and they are off in another direction. While this improves with age, I also think it can be a skill that can be developed. Being intentional helps us rear our kids to develop character. I have a feeling your kids might enjoy playing this attentiveness challenge with the object game a number of times. Attentiveness Challenge with the Object Game

I’m sure you have played this game at a baby shower or somewhere along the way. I emphasized today that attentiveness means really paying attention to the details around you. It is looking and listening carefully. I made a tray full of items and brought it out. I had them study the items carefully for one minute. Then, I took the tray away and had them begin to list off as many items as they could remember. This activity will help them learn to concentrate and stay focused on a task. You can play this game a number of times and try and beat your previous score of how many you got correct. They can improve with practice.

I have to admit that I’m not the one you’d want with you at a crime scene. Some people are just more in tune to the details around them. This kind of game helps challenge our brains and works on memory skills as well as attentiveness. I think you will have fun playing along. Maybe get your kids to set up an object tray for you to see how well you do. I’m sure they’ll have fun challenging your brain while you challenge theirs.
