The power is still out, so it has taken a lot of patience and diligence to make these posts happen. Please have grace for formatting errors and brief posts. Pictures may not happen. Im trying to work it out, but I’ve tried a few times and it’s been acting weird. On to today’s post…
Today, we played a game I used to play with kids when I tutored. I like to call it “World Builder.” You take three paper bags and label them beginning sounds, middle sounds and end sounds. I then had my daughter write all her vowels on some paper and put them in the middle sounds bag. Meanwhile I wrote blends for the beginning sounds bag and consonants for the end sounds bag. Let the game begin. You simply have them grab a card from each bag and have them sound out the word. If it’s a real word, they get a point. Then, it is your turn. I put blends (cr, bl, tr, sn, etc.) in the beginning sounds bag because that is what Abby is working on right now, but you can adapt it to any reading level.
