Not as dramatic as I had hoped. Maybe if we had painted the food coloring on the whole bar. Still cool.
Today was another sick day here, but I wanted to still find a fun, interesting activity for the kids to do. I found this one on Wendolonia.
Take a bar of Ivory soap. It must be Ivory soap because it is made differently than other soap. It has little air pockets within the soap. It has air whipped into it. Next, stick it into the microwave for 30-40 seconds. The result?
We then decided to do our own little experiment. We cut the other half of the soap into four parts and added different color food coloring to each section. The result?
We then gave the kids a mini-science lesson on how air expands when it is heated.
Warning: If you are sensitive to smell, be careful Our whole house ended up smelling like soap. My husband gets migraines from certain smells. Fortunately, I think we avoided it by having him leave the house immediately and opening all the doors.
Warning #2: It cools fairly quickly, but make sure you touch it before your kids so there are no burnt fingers.
I’ve been meaning to try this with my kids but kept forgetting. Visiting your blog last week reminded me! We did it yesterday and the girls loved it! Thanks for the push! 🙂
That’s what this blog has been about for me. Doing all the things with my kids that I’ve been meaning to do. Thank you so much for commenting.
p.s. – Thanks for stopping by my blog (and for pinning my rainbow party post!). I wanted to reply to your email but you’re one of those “noreply-comment@bloggers” – you should fix that so bloggers can respond directly! 🙂 ANyway, I like the premise of your blog. Keep up the good work!
Oh my goodness. I had no idea. Thank you for so much for letting me know. I will change that right away.
Neat idea, my kids would love it. If you get a chance come check out my blog at http://www.newlifeovernight.blogspot.com
Sounds like you and I started a blog for the same reasons. I enjoy what you have going on in your site and have become a follower. Glad you found me.
Looks so fun!!!
It was. Fast, easy and fun for the kids. Perfect.
what does it feel like? it looks like marshmallow fluff! i’m going to tell my daughter about this, it looks fun!
It’s hard to describe how it feels. You can grab it, and it kind of squishes back together. It fluffy but not moist at all. Hard to describe I guess. We were all intrigued by it though.
Could kids use this as clouds on a piece of construction paper? Would they stick on construction paper?
I’m not convinced it would stick. It still is the texture of dried soap, so I don’t know how that would work. What a fun idea though. I wish I could wrap my idea around how to make it possible.
This looks like so much fun! I don’t have any kids, but I might just do this myself!
You should! Kid at heart. I love it.
So much fun!! Thank you for sharing at Sharing Saturday! Have a great week!
Thanks for hosting. I appreciate you hosts out there!
Thanks for linking up at Thinky Linky Thursday this week! We are happy to have your ideas.
