Virtue
“And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:17
Virtue n. 1. general moral goodness; right acting and thinking; morality 2. a particular moral quality regarded as good or meritorious. 3. Demonstrating honest and integrity in my life by doing what is right.
Reason Chosen: Virtue is something we want all our kids to excel at. It’s not because we want them to look a certain way but because we want the best things for them. We know that following the will of God brings more blessings in life. We want to pass this idea on to our children. I enter this week with a lot of awareness of my goal – to get to my kids’ hearts. I don’t want the pursuit of virtue to trump the desire for my kids to love God’s laws because of the grace they’ve experienced. So, although I’m spending the week talking about doing right, I want to find the balance of teaching them that we all mess up, we are given grace and because of that grace it makes us want to follow God’s plans for our lives. It’s dangerous to me to have obedient, virtuous kids who have hearts who are far away from truth.
