My niece just turned sixteen, and I was in charge of the cake and decoration for her quirky pale pink and gold sweet sixteen birthday party. It’s a random theme – I’m warning you. However, perhaps you are trying to celebrate a child who has a fun, random sense of humor as well as a sweet personality. This combination describes my niece, which is exactly what led me to the inspiration for the party decor.

When my sister asked me to decorate, I was initially at a loss. We my niece liked the gold and pale pink combination, but I was trying to come up with a design that fit her. I wasn’t sure what kind of centerpieces I could find or make that were a good fit for both her and the great vibe of the coffee shop where we would be celebrating called Markee.
Quirky Pale Pink and Gold Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party Ideas
Random Stuff Painted Gold – Taking inspiration from a friend of mine who gave my other friend a toy dinosaur she had spray painted gold, the decision was made. I’m going to buy the most random stuff I can find at Goodwill, garage sales and the Dollar Tree and spray paint them gold. That was the beginning of the idea for decor.
Ugly Selfies – You need the right kind of kid to embrace the second component of the decorations – ugly selfies. I have seen enough ugly selfies shared among teens to think this is a thing right now. When, I reached out to her friends, I quickly collected a variety of ugly selfies of Emma and her friends. You need a confident kid to love the idea of putting ugly selfies of them and their friends in inexpensive Dollar Tree frames. I also made a great ugly selfie slideshow using Animoto, a super easy to use online program. This slideshow was shown throughout the party.
Beautiful Flowers in Pale Pink and Gold Vases – The final component was all beautiful, just like my niece. I purchased pale pink and cream roses and carnations to make arrangements for the tables.
It all came together just like a pictured, and seemed to be a hit at the party.

Quirky Pale Pink and Gold Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party – Banner
The banner, announcing her age was a big 16 cut out of foam core board using an X-Acto Knife. On top of that I hot glued a whole bunch of random stuff I bought at Dollar Tree or miscellaneous small kid toys I had around the house that I was dying to get rid of. Once all the stuff was glued down, I spray painted everything gold. Here’s the during and after:

Quirky Pale Pink and Gold Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party – Food Ideas
Markee Coffee shop did an amazing catering job for the party. If you are ever looking to host a party in the Gig Harbor, WA area, I highly recommend Markee. They were lovely to work with, putting so much care and thought into making this a special event. The food was beautiful, gourmet and enjoyed by all. I’m going to simply give you a visual because the food speaks for itself.
A very sweet touch was that the women at Markee developed a custom drink for my niece and the party.
Part of the celebration also included her sweet sixteen birthday cake and an amazing S’More Bar (coming soon).
Emma had more fun celebrating with her family and friends. Another cool component of the sweet sixteen celebration was the band. Her math teacher is in a band, which she thinks is too cool. As a surprise at the party, her math teacher and his band played. There was also a slide show created by her friend and a sweet toast by her youth pastor, which included words from her friends about what they admire about her.
Overall, it was an amazing celebration for a quirky and sweet young lady.
